Our Mission

1st Gear Music was born of frustration in 2006.  Owner George Gillis was tired of endlessly searching the web for guitar and bass gear he knew existed, but nobody seemed to stock.

As a result, 1st Gear Music focuses mainly on top-name, pro-level guitar and bass instruments, amplifiers with killer tone, a large selection of proven effects pedals, and custom gear not common in traditional music stores — be they brick-and-mortar or on the web. And our Number One policy is to only show gear that is actually in stock and ready to ship. No smoke and mirrors with displaying pre-orders and back orders as if you could buy them right away.

Some players are happy with just the basics. Others are forever on a quest for elusive, unique music gear. George belongs to the latter group. He is an unabashed gear head. For the past 25 years, he has both built and modified guitars and basses, using parts and accessories not commonly found in music stores or on websites. Before starting 1st Gear Music, George’s "day job" was that of a business manager and financial consultant. He believes that the bass is God’s chosen instrument. George has performed with various bands and church worship teams, but he sees his true calling as that of a gear aficionado.
